ICDDR,B is an international health research institute based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, established in 1960. It is committed to solving public health problems through innovative scientific research – including laboratory-based, clinical, epidemiological, and health systems research. They conduct high-quality research and providing quality medical care.

ICDDR,B has a mix of national and international staff, including public health scientists, laboratory scientists, clinicians, nutritionists, demographers, social and behavioral scientists, IT professionals, and experts in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and vaccine sciences.

ICDDR,B operates an internationally recognized clinical diagnostic laboratory service division known as "LSSD". It provides a wide range of diagnostic tests, including serological and microbiological screening and more complex hematological and molecular diagnostics.

Some notable facilities of ICDDR,B laboratories are -

  • Blood tests, x-ray, ultrasonograms, and other diagnostic tests are completed through six world-class automated labs.
  • Test reports are provided accurately and quickly.
  • Affordable diabetic retinopathy can be tested daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • More than 600 routine screening tests ranging from complex molecular and genetic tests can be performed.
  • 9 types of executive checkup services are provided, including essential checkups, cancer screening, etc.

The ICDDR,B Laboratory Sciences and Services Division (LSSD) hosts some of the finest research laboratories. Its clinical diagnostic laboratories serve as reference laboratories for clinical diagnostic analysis of human disease cohorts and control subjects. The diagnostic laboratories are the only accredited labs under ISO15189 (quality) and ISO15190 (safety) in Bangladesh for as many as 160 different tests.
