What is the biggest cause of ovarian cancer?

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. Almost 300,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.

Ovarian cancer is mostly found in older women (63 years of age or older). This is rare in younger women (younger than 40 years). The risk increases with age and tends to develop after menopause. 1 in every 87 women has the risk of developing ovarian cancer in her lifetime and the possibility of dying is about 1 in 130.

The survival rate of ovarian cancer is almost like this: after diagnosis, 78% survive at least one year, 60% at least three years, and 50% at least five years.

What are the main causes of ovarian cancer?
The causes of ovarian cancer are still unknown, but doctors warn about some risk factors that may cause it.

Age
Age is a risk factor for ovarian cancer. Older women are more susceptible to this cancer.

Inherited Gene
Some genes like BRCA1, BRCA2, BRIP1, RAD51C, and RAD51D may cause ovarian cancers. Most people inherit these genes from their parents, and any changes in these genes provoke this type of cancer.

Family history
If anyone in your family has a history of ovarian cancer, it will increase the cancer risk.

Obesity
There is a connection between obesity and ovarian cancer.

Hormonal therapy
Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk.

Never being pregnant
If you have never experienced pregnancy, you are at risk of developing ovarian cancer.
