Breast cancer awareness seminar at DU by 'Amra Nari'

On November 28, a seminar on breast cancer awareness was held at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of Bangladesh Kuwait Maitree Hall of Dhaka University. The seminar was jointly organized by Amra Nari, an organization focused on women's empowerment, Amra Nari Research and Development, a research institute, and Dhaka University.

October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month worldwide. To raise awareness in Bangladesh, 'Amra Nari' and 'Amra Nari Research and Development' conducted various awareness activities across the country during October and November.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer for all women, regardless of age or profession. The benefits of early breast cancer detection, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention were discussed.

There are some misconceptions in our society about this cancer; those topics were also discussed in the seminar.

According to the World Health Organization, about 20,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Bangladesh, and about 7,500 of them die.

The discussion also highlighted that the rate of this cancer is increasing in Bangladesh due to a lack of proper knowledge, awareness, and medical facilities.

The event was hosted by Jannatul Islam Nonima, a student of Pali and Buddhist Studies at Dhaka University.

The seminar was attended by Dr. Umm Humaira Kaneta, Provost of Bangladesh Kuwait Maitree Hall, and Dr. Mahbuba Sultana, Proctor of Dhaka University. Shafiuddin Ahmed, IT Consultant; Md. Samiul Islam Hiran, Director of Training; Shahidullah Swapan, and MM Zahidur Rahman (Biplob), founder and chief coordinator of Amra Nari and Amra Nari Research and Development.

'Impression' was the seminar's snack partner, while Ittefaq, Bangladesh Post, Ekattor TV, and Dhaka Mail were the media partners.
