Guardian Life Insurance Limited has launched the country's first digital insurance plan for cancer patients. ‘Guardian Cancer Care’ is a low-cost, budget-friendly solution for cancer patients in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Rakibul Karim, the company’s CEO, launched this insurance policy on November 14, 2022, at the National Press Club, Dhaka.
Guardian Cancer Care is a timely initiative by Guardian Life to financially secure individuals and their families as cancer rates and costs rise worldwide.
People aged 18-55 years can buy this insurance policy for a 5-year to 20-year term. As per the terms of the Guardian Cancer Care plan, up to Tk 20 lakh will be paid to a policyholder in case of early-stage or major-stage cancer diagnosis against highly affordable yearly premiums starting from Tk 150.
The Guardian Cancer Care plan can be purchased from "Easylife," the digital platform of Guardian Life.
It was informed that currently there is no advanced treatment system for cancer treatment in Bangladesh at low cost. According to a report by the National Cancer Research Institute, a cancer patient spends an average of Rs 6,39,000 a year on cancer treatment, which is quite alarming for most families in a developing country like Bangladesh. Many families become destitute to cover the medical expenses.
Quamrul Hasan, a life member of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (Idra), said that because of the Cancer Care Plan, the policyholder does not have to sell a property for cancer treatment.
Since its inception, Guardian Life's main mission has been to provide innovative and cost-effective insurance policies to its customers so that the majority of people in the country can ensure proper cancer treatment through insurance coverage. The need and importance of Guardian Cancer Care are high in the current context as cancer rates and costs rise worldwide.
