About more than 3 lakh people are suffering from cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, paralyzed stroke, congenital heart diseases and thalassemia. Just as patients suffering from these diseases die of starvation due to lack of money, his family becomes destitute by paying for medical treatment.
The Ministry of Social Welfare, through the Department of Social Services, is implementing the program to provide one-time financial assistance of Tk. 50,000 (fifty thousand) to the poor patients suffering from cancer, kidney and liver cirrhosis.
Goals and Objectives of this program is to provide medical assistance to poor patients suffering from cancer, kidney and liver cirrhosis; assisting the family of the affected patient and helping to return to healthy and normal life.
Each selected poor patient suffering from these will be given a lump sum of Tk. 50,000 (fifty thousand). The government will retain the power to increase / decrease financial grants.
Criteria for candidate selection
- Citizenship: Candidate must be a citizen of Bangladesh.
- Distressed: Priority should be given to the most destitute person.
- Socio-economic status:
- In case of financial situation: Children, destitute, refugees and landless should be given priority.
- In case of social status: Elderly, widowed, divorced, widowed, childless, separated from family should be given priority.
- Ownership of land: Preference should be given to landless candidates where applicable. In this case, if the amount of land of a person other than the homestead is 0.50 acres or, less, he will be considered landless.
Eligibility and conditions for receiving financial assistance
- Patients with cancer, kidney and liver cirrhosis, paralyzed stroke, congenital heart diseases and thalassemia must be certified by a registered physician;
- Must have a prescription and test report from a specialist in the relevant disease;
- Must have biopsy or other test reports in case of such-cancer and in case of kidney disease;
- Patients suffering from Acute Renal Failure or Chronic Renal Failure should be considered for dialysis services. However, in areas where access to dialysis services is not available, this assistance can be provided subject to certification by a specialist.
- Must have National Identity Card / Birth Certificate (Photocopy attested by Gazetted Officer 1st Class);
- Must be selected by the selection committee.
Candidate Selection Process
The Deputy Directors will prepare a preliminary list and submit it to the District Committee in the light of the applications received for financial assistance to patients suffering from Cancer, Kidney, Liver Cirrhosis, Stroke, Paralyzed, Congenital heart diseases and Thalassemia.
The concerned Deputy Director shall maintain two separate lists and registers in his district containing the necessary documents and information regarding the treatment of initially eligible and ineligible persons in Cancer, Kidney, Liver Cirrhosis, Stroke Paralyzed, Congenital heart diseases and Thalassemia patients.
The said list and the applications received should be presented at the meeting of the District Implementation Committee and the Implementation Committee shall verify the applications and a single list eligible for financial assistance (along with ancillary documents) will be made to distribute the checks with the consent of the Implementation Committee.
